An original X-Men team member in Marvel Comics, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby ‘Marvel Girl’ was the early alias of character Jean Grey, first appearing in The X-Men #1 (September 1963).
Born with telepathic and telekinetic abilities, Jean Grey was mentored by Charles Xavier and was a member of the original X-Men team. Jean’s ‘Marvel Girl’ alias was ended by death in ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga,’ giving way to the physical manifestation of the cosmic Phoenix Force when she was “reborn” as ‘Phoenix’.
"I completed an online study to work on my technique and in that course I worked on another character from a book I was drawing for. When I finished, I really liked the result and wanted to draw another. I chose Marvel Girl because she was the original Jean Grey and a personal favorite. The image reflects the caring and innocent nature of a young Jean Grey and is very much inspired by my early love for the anime cartoons I watched growing up in Costa Rica.– Francine Delgado
